Bullied or shy?
Help them stand tall.
Telling a child to "be brave" rarely works. Confidence comes from doing hard things and getting good at them. Here's how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) helps.

Watch: why jiu-jitsu helps kids stand up to bullying (7 min)
Video by GracieBreakdown on YouTube. No punches, no kicks: kids BJJ is about balance, control and staying calm.
First things first: bullying is never your child's fault. If it's happening at school, talk to their teacher or principal and note what happens and when. If your child seems very distressed or unsafe, speak to your GP or Kids Helpline. BJJ works alongside that support, not instead of it.
5 ways BJJ builds confidence
Confidence comes from doing
Every new skill they couldn't do last week is proof they can handle hard things.
Body language changes
Standing tall, eye contact and a firm "stop" get practised on the mat until they show up at school.
Calm under pressure
Kids practise staying calm in tricky positions on a soft mat while a coach talks them through it.
Control, not striking
A grappling sport with no punches or kicks. Kids learn to keep balance, escape a grab and get back up.
A team to belong to
Bullying is lonely. A class gives kids friends, role models and coaches who notice when something's wrong.
